Amidst the political turmoil in Westminster following the Government losing control of the Brexit process, the Chancellor delivered the 2019 Spending Round. This set out the Government’s spending limits for some Government departments for the 2020-21 financial year. Whilst the set-piece was overshadowed by Brexit and a seemingly inevitable general election, Sajid Javid attempted to use his statement to declare an end to austerity and set out that spending will rise across all departments.
