The new Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, delivered today's Budget against the backdrop of the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak.
Much of the speech was used to outline a £30 billion support package to help the nation through the Coronavirus crisis and the scale of this support shows the level of concern within Government on the potential impact of the crisis.
Away from COVID-19, the Chancellor's clear message was that this is a Government that wants to "get it done", and it was under this theme that a wave of new spending pledges were unveiled. Indeed, the Office for Budget Responsibility has described this as the 'largest planned sustained giveaway at any fiscal event since 1992'.
