Hunt to expand medical schools to make the NHS 'self sufficient' by 2025
As is now the norm, the majority of Jeremy Hunt's speech was leaked prior to his appearance on stage today. He began by saying that the NHS is a 'precious public service', but that it doesn't always get things right. However his big announcement was that the NHS will no longer relying on doctors coming to the UK from overseas by 2025.
To deliver this, Hunt said there would be 1,500 new medical schools places a year 2018, an expansion that will apparently cost £100m.
